Too Many College Grads; Too Few Jobs

The CareerBuilder study is based on 2,134 U.S. workers graduating from college between August 13 and September 6, 2013 See the video: College is not the golden ticket A college education is not necessarily the golden ticket it used to be, says Will McGuinness HuffPost College Senior Editor. His comments are based on The Center for College Affordability and Productivity report, Why are Recent College Graduates Underemployed? The report says: About 48 percent of college grads do not need a four-year college degree http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/11/20/job-prospects-for-recent-college-grads-improving-survey-finds/3647071/ for the job they currently hold. Eleven percent of grads are in jobs requiring more than a high-school diploma but less than a four-year degree. Thirty-seven percent are in jobs that could be held by high-school grads. College grads are taking jobs from high school grads About five million college graduates have taken jobs requiring only high-school education. The trend has worsened since 1970: One percent of taxi drivers had college degrees in 1970.

The Cities Creating The Most High-paid Jobs, And Why They’re Good For Low-wage Workers Too

“Fortunately, U.S. workers are in a very good position to win that race.” The study, however, makes some rosy assumptions about the spillover effects for states not directly involved in hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. The practice is vigorously opposed by environmental groups, which have fought to restrain or ban the activity in environmentally friendly states. New Yorkwhich http://www.firstpost.com/economy/campa-cola-mess-why-occupation-certificate-is-so-crucial-1229187.html currently has a moratorium on the processand California are among those the study said would see an upswing in jobs and revenue associated with natural gas exporting. Future of LNG Scott Darling, regional head of oil and gas research, J.P. Morgan, says uncertainty over the timing of Japan nuclear restarts could boost LNG demand.

For the metros at the top of this list, the large share of high-wage jobs is a byproduct of their high cost of living compared to the national average. But its also related to their highly skilled, well-educated workforces. In the government-driven D.C. metro area , more than 25 percent of new jobs since 2009 (as well as a quarter of projected new jobs from 2013 to 2017) have come in occupations that pay $40 or more per hour. Thats a staggering number of high-wage jobs, many of which are clustered among finance, computer, and professional services occupations management analysts, software developers, financial analysts, interpreters and translators, et al. The share of new $40-an-hour jobs since 2009 is slightly smaller in Boston and Seattle. In the last four years, though, both metros have added more than 6,000 software developer jobs with median wages of around $50 an hour locally. Its these type of high-skill, hard-to-fill occupations that will drive high-wage growth as the economy continues to stabilize. And as more of these high-wage jobs are created, more entry-level opportunities will arise for less-skilled workers.

Fukushima operator TEPCO to cut 1,000 more jobs: newspaper

This reduction was estimated to have been already achieved through increases in early retirement and restraint on new recruitment, the report said. TEPCO will propose the new plan to slash more than 1,000 jobs between April and September next year to its labour unions shortly, Nikkei said. The new job cut programme will be incorporated in an updated business turnaround plan to be compiled in December, the daily said. A massive earthquake and tsunami in March 2011 ravaged the Fukushima plant’s cooling system, sparking a reactor meltdown in the world’s worst nuclear accident since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. TEPCO has been effectively nationalised by a huge injection of public cash to help it survive the vast costs of the clean-up at Fukushima. Business Another milestone is passing in America’s racial journey: The next mayor of New York City is a white man with a black wife.

Career Tools: Communicate To Motivate Teams

It’s not a way to embarrass coworkers, said Krista Bofill, director of development at Fuqua. It’s a way to build camaraderie. “If http://news.yahoo.com/job-interview-advice-veterans-practice-141619986.html we get a gift, everybody has to do the money dance,” Bofill said. “It’s not about moves or rhythm, it’s simply about getting everyone excited because we’ve done a good job.” While dancing may not work for everyone, it’s a unique way Duke employees motivate others. Whether you’re a supervisor or not, creating a positive impact on coworkers can be a responsibility for everyone in an office or department. It’s a way to boost morale and make a more cohesive work environment, Bofill said. “It’s about making everyone feel a part of decisions, programs and the excitement of successes,” she said. An important key to finding what will succeed to motivate others is to first figure out what excites members of a team, said Keisha Williams, director of Learning and Organization Development . By determining a common denominator that motivates multiple people, Williams noted it’s easier to create cohesion among coworkers.

All In A Day’s Work! Kate Moss Oozes Effortless Style As She Enjoys A Solo Shopping Spree In London’s Mayfair

How Twitter’s IPO will work

– The investment banks, or underwriters, immediately sell the IPO shares to clients, based on the orders it took earlier. The shares mostly go to big investors. Only a small percentage of individual investors will get shares in the IPO at this point. – New shareholders start preparing orders for the next day. Some shareholders want to sell all or part of their newly-acquired stock. Some want to add to their holdings if they didn’t get as much stock as they hoped. – Twitter will have made its money. When the stocks starts trading the next day, company executives will ring the opening bell and applaud as trading opens on the floor of the NYSE. But all the hoopla, buying and selling, and changes in the stock price won’t change the amount raised by Twitter. The 70 million shares will be owned by public investors, who can trade them among each other. The Day of the IPO: – Before the stock market opens, a “designated market maker” arrives on the floor of the NYSE and starts processing orders from the night before. The DMM is like a conductor for a company’s stock. He or she is an experienced stock trader in charge of ensuring the buying and selling goes smoothly. If trading becomes volatile, the DMM can step in and buy shares using his firm’s own money. It’s good to have this safety net if things go wrong with the IPO. DMMs, who used to be called specialists, are unique to the NYSE. – Around 9:15 a.m., 15 minutes before the market opens, traders get a first taste of the public demand for a company’s shares. Twitter’s DMM will work through any initial orders to get a price quote for newly-issued shares. The price quote is typically in a range. – At 9:30 a.m. company executives ring the bell to open the NYSE. – Twitters’ stock is expected to start trading Thursday morning, when traders will gather around the DMM. The traders, who represent dozens of clients and hundreds of investors who may buy or sell, start placing their own orders. The area can become crowded as dozens of traders compete for the attention of Twitter’s DMM. – Company executives head down to Twitter’s location on the NYSE to observe the first trade. – The NYSE’s floor traders shout their orders to the DMM. Some investors want to buy the IPO, some are clients who got shares in the IPO overnight and want to sell a portion of their holdings. The DMM’s job is to find that right price for a company’s newly-offered shares. “We’re trying to give an opportunity to everyone to get into the stock,” says Matt Cheslock, a DMM for Virtu Financial who works at the NYSE.

Which is why when Kate Moss decides to go shopping there are always a posse of stylists and sales assistants ready and willing to help her out. The 39-year-old English high fashion model was spotted in Mayfair at the weekend, enjoying lunch at C London restaurant before heading to Prada, Alexander McQueen and YSL in London’s New Bond Street, so scout out the latest trends. Me time: Kate Moss enjoys lunch at C London restaurant in Mayfair before heading to a number of luxury stores on a shopping spree Kate was spotted out in a chic all-black ensemble, wearing a black T-shirt, black skinny jeans, flat black boots and a short navy jacket. She was carrying a colourful crocodile skin handbag and kept her jewellery simple with just a pearl necklace and stud earrings. Her blonde locks were tousled in her signature effortless style and she wore minimal make-up, with just a touch of cheek and lip tint for her outing. Stylish as ever: Kate Moss looked effortlessly chic in all-black whilst she carried a colourful crocodile skin handbag around Mayfair Although she did not appear to be holding any bags when leaving the designer stores, Kate no doubt picked up on what pieces she would be looking to purchase from the designers’ new collections in the near future. When looking through the rails in the stores, Kate was seen being assisted by a couple of women who appeared all too happy to talk through the items with the Croydon-born supermodel. And clearly one to realise that staying on-trend is not easy work, she was sure to visit three stores of the most sought-after designer brands. Browsing: Kate Moss enjoyed looking at collections in stores such as Prada, Alexander McQueen and YSL in London’s New Bond Street Effortless style: Kate Moss looked effortlessly stylish for her shopping day in London Keeping it simple: Kate decided to go shopping alone, but seemed to be having a great time all by herself Just in case anyone failed to notice her, Kate Moss stepped out in a very bright red coat following a shoot in Paris on Monday. Showing off her natural beauty the 39-year-old appeared make-up free as she toted her own suitcase through the city. Looking very chic in an all black outfit, the model added a pop of colour with her cropped fur detail coat, which featured a matching scarf. City slicker: Kate Moss wowed in a bright red coat as she stepped out in Paris on Monday The coat matched perfectly with her glossy red finger nails, which were on show as she carried her luggage. Its thought that the Croydon-born star had taken part in a shoot with French actress Catherine Deneuve, who is now 70. While her hair still appeared to be styled it fell in big curls around her shoulders – she seemed to have taken off her make-up, making her appear very fresh faced. Dolled up: While Kate may have been wearing very little make-up she still had her hair styled in glamorous curls Kate was accompanied by a male friend, who she chucked her arm around while giggling away as they walked. But after leaving her pal, Kate carried on pulling her Fendi suitcase behind her, as well as a black handbag in the crook of her arm. Can’t be missed: Kate’s red coat really stood out particularly against the rest of her black outfit The stars appearance in Paris came a few days after she attended Jonathan Rosss annual Halloween party, dressed to impress as a Skeleton Lady. The mother-of-one, who was accompanied by her husband Jamie Hince and daughter Lila Grace, seemed to have a great time and really let her hair down. The partys host, Jonathan Ross, took to Twitter to share a picture of the famous star apparently kissing Nicole Scherzinger who was wearing a pig mask.

Trend toward employment An increasing number of physicians and surgeons are seeking employment in large, incorporated medical/surgical practices or choosing to become salaried hospital employees, or hospitalists, to avoid dealing with the escalating costs of running a practice. The solo practitioner or small group practice, even in small towns and rural areas, is rapidly becoming an endangered species. Hopefully, training programs developed specifically for the rural surgeon will reverse this trend. Those of us who practiced part or all of our careers in the era of fee for service have a hard time accepting the concept of managed care, when those individuals responsible for making decisions about what is a covered service often are nonphysicians. We question whether some of these individuals are able to decide what is in the patients best interests rather than what is best for the corporate bottom line. Recent medical school graduates who have no personal experience with fee for service will have less difficulty accepting the new medical care model, one of fealty to bureaucratically determined guidelines in which the physician is a provider, an employee who works a shift and offers covered services to patients who have been enrolled in a health care plan. Such a situation, unfortunately, could destroy the sacred trust that patients have placed in their physician as someone who is primarily entrusted with their best interests with respect to health care matters. Physicians in this new era must remember and jealously guard their role as their patients advocate vis-a-vis the government and private health care insurance plans. If physicians continue to advocate for their patients, the bond between patient and physician may be preserved.
